Client Compliance After Training

Yes, we are talking to you about your contribution to your dog's training after a professional trainer, like us has kick-started the dog training work for you. Whether you've had residential dog training or in-home training, we can only do so much towards training your dog. Besides you live with your dog, and we don't :)

The whole family needs to keep training your dog, not just one of you!

Client compliance after dog training isn't just important—it's essential for lasting success and harmony between you and your dog. Think of dog training like building a house. The Dog Trainer sets the foundation, but it’s up to you to continue constructing the walls, adding the roof, and keeping everything sturdy. Without consistent follow-through, all that hard work can start to crumble. Yep, your dog might forget their well-practised manners and slip back into old habits, and no one wants to go through the “why are you suddenly jumping on guests again?” phase and moan at your dog trainer that your dog is indeed not trained all because you let your training plan given to you by your dog trainer slip away!

After your dog has had their training, they’re pretty much a canine genius in the making—but here’s the catch: even Einstein would have forgotten his formulas if he hadn’t used them regularly. For your dog, training is a life-long learning experience, and as their guardian, you become their continued trusty teacher. When you continue practising the cues and behaviours taught during training, it strengthens their brain and muscle memory, making sure your dog doesn’t fall back into their unwanted ways of chewing shoes or not coming when called. Plus, it deepens your bond, which is what we all want, right? You and your dog, working together as a dynamic duo!

Dog training needs to be an every day thing, dog training is for life with any dog!

But there’s more. Not only does ongoing compliance keep your dog well-behaved, but it also helps prevent any sneaky behavioural issues from cropping up again. Life is full of distractions—whether it's the pizza delivery guy, a new dog in the neighbourhood, or the temptation of a tasty snack on the counter in the kitchen. Without reinforcing what they’ve learned, your dog might decide, “Hey, that ‘stay’ cue I learned? I’ll just interpret it loosely.”

Keeping up with training ensures that your dog remains responsive, polite, and ready for whatever new adventures life throws at them.

So, what’s the takeaway here? You might not like this but client compliance is like doggy homework—it might not always be the most exciting part, but it’s necessary if you want that A+ behaviour to stick around. The good news is that practising with your dog doesn’t have to be a chore. Incorporate training into everyday activities! Make "sit" a part of your morning routine, have your dog practice "place" while you prepare dinner, or get creative with recall games at the park, and practice "wait" every time you cross the road. Not only will your dog stay sharp, but you’ll be building an even stronger relationship, one cue at a time.

Long story short: stick with the training, and your well-behaved, happy dog will thank you for it and hopefully you will reap the rewards of all the work we put in to set a good foundation for you to follow up and continue.
