Homely Petz was founded by Amanda in the early part of 2007, on a part time basis and through word of mouth. As the population of Dubai has grown so has pet ownership and Homely Petz has grown accordingly, recommended by leading veterinary clinics and the preferred alternative to kennels or catterys.
Amanda worked at The Veterinary Hospital in Dubai for nearly 4 years, one of the longest established clinics in Dubai. When the clinic moved location to bigger premises Amanda was promoted to Practice Manager, whereupon took on the task of helping the establishment grow from strength to strength. Her experience is vast in looking after and caring for the smallest hamster to the majestic Great Dane/German Mastiff (of which she owns four). Although no longer working at the clinic she maintains links with most of the clinics in Dubai.
Amanda grew up on a farm in the UK, surrounded by 5 cats, 2 labradors and a yard full of chickens. Amanda expatriated to Riyadh in 1993 with her husband and then 1 year old son. The family rescued a street cat, "Jenny" who then travelled with them to Cairo, they rescued an African Grey Parrot, "Jo Jo," hence she enjoys the parrot sits and advises on parrot behaviour. After 4 years in Cairo Amanda moved with her family to Dubai and helped K9 Friends with various fosters of which one was "Cleo" who has been with the family ever since. "Cleo was a special case, she was incredibly nervous, not house-trained and terrified of men and her own shadow! After substantial training, confidence building, tonnes of love and affection she is now a playful, energetic dog with loads to offer." Amanda's family then adopted a further 4 dogs, all Great Danes (German Mastiff), "Duke," "Doza," "Charlie" and "Viking" and hence started the "Great Danes in Dubai" support network here in Dubai. Amanda has attended the The Middle East Vet Congress in both 2007 and 2008 completing Pet Nutrition and Veterinary Business Management. Studied and completed Feline Cat Behaviour with Compass Education in the UK. Currently studying with the Academy of Dog Training and Behaviour in the UK. Is a Doggone Safe Member presenting the "Be a Tree" dog bite prevention programme to children, Canine First Aid Certified as accredited by the International Society of Animal Professionals of which she is a member.
Neil, Amanda's husband, a Londoner, grew up with the usual cat and dog in the UK. Worked as a dog handler and trainer in the British Army and is an active full member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (US). Neil's own first cat he had was "Simba" nurtured from a kitten and well loved. Neil enjoys horse riding of which he owned a horse "Arabesque" who was an Anglo-Arab horse in the UK. As a K9 Handler on active service with the British Army Neil developed his skills and experience throughout his career and in recent years has delivered K9 security programmes as a service within conflict areas and high security environments.
Neil refreshes his Canine training skills annually working with Gun Dogs in the US so that he remains up to date with the latest thinking and methods. Neil's military Dog training is NVQ level 4 equal, as well as being a Certified Pet First Aider he is also a Professional Member of the Association Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) and International Society of Animal Professionals (ISAP). Believing "you can never know enough about dogs" Neil is presently studying with the Institute of Companion Animal Behaviour (ICAB) and undertaking a degree in Zooology. He works with dog shelters throughout the UAE assessing and recommending appropriate rehabilitation programs.
